By Curtis Berleue | Davie Franek made the long haul north from his home in Sussex, NJ this past weekend to compete with the Patriot Sprint Tour at the Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, NY. At the end of the night, the team ended up in victory lane, making his first trip to ‘New York’s Toughest Bullring’ that much more memorable.
A solid field of 25 cars packed the pit area to start the night, and Franek would draw the 18 pill after the drivers meeting lining him up 4th in heat two. A strong finish of second gave him enough passing points to make the top 8 redraw, where he drew the number three starting spot for the A-Main.
Franek would make quick work of the second-starting Justin Barger, and then followed the 55 of Gerard McIntyre for the majority of the caution-filled main event. On lap 20, Franek was finally able to get by McIntyre for the lead and never looked back.
“This race track was amazing,” stated Franek. “You could race bottom, middle, top, where ever you needed to be. The restarts were kind of messing me up because I was trying to get into a rhythm to size (McIntyre) up to pass him, but then the caution would come out again.”
Franek will return to action this coming weekend for a triple header, starting with two nights of action against the Empire Super Sprints at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY and Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, NY. Then on Sunday, the team will pull out their 410 and compete with the Greatest Show on Dirt – the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, NY.
