By Curtis Berleue | Another two-race weekend for Davie Franek Racing and the #28f machine saw the driver from Sussex, NJ maintain his points lead with the Patriot Sprint tour and set fast time in his time trial group on Saturday with the Empire Super Sprints.
On Friday night, Franek and the Patriot Sprint Tour returned to the Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY as part of their annual NASCAR weekend. Heavy rainfall as heat races began to push out led for a heavy track surface all night. Franek went out on the pole of heat race number two and finished second – still good enough in passing points to make the top 8 redraw.
Drawing a number 8, Franek lined up on the outside of row four for the 25-lap A-Main. On a narrow, heavy track Franek brought the Rapid tire #28f home eighth out of 20 cars.
The following night, DFR and crew traveled just up the road to Canandaigua, NY with the Empire Super Sprints. Setting quick time in hot lap group number three, Franek lined up in position number two of heat three based on a two-car inversion. Finishing 5th in his heat, Franek would move to the dash where he finished 5th. Lining up 17th for the A-Main, Franek ultimately lost two spots for a 19th place finish, two laps down.
This coming weekend, Franek will start in the north country of New York at the Can Am Motorsports Park with the Empire Super Sprints on Friday, August 9. The following two nights he will continue his title hunt with the Patriot Sprint Tour as they invade Mercer (PA) and Eriez (PA) Speedways for the first time in two years.
