Franek Wins $5,000 in Cole Cup; Maintains Patriot Sprint Point Lead - Curtis Berleue Photography

By Curtis Berleue | Davie Franek continued his domination of the northeast 360 sprint car scene yet again this weekend recording a second place at Big Diamond Speedway and wins number five and six on the season at Land of Legends Raceway and Utica Rome Speedway for the $5,000 to win Cole Cup.

Friday night, the 2014 and 2016 URC champion returned to compete with the club at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, PA. Franek started 7th in his heat, and was able to advance four positions to third, putting him in the A-Main redraw. After drawing the 4th starting spot, Franek was able to move up to second through the course of the 25 lap affair and finished on the podium for the 13th time in 2019.

On Saturday, the 28f loaded up and headed north to the Land of Legends Raceway in Canandaigua, NY to continue its title fight against the Patriot Sprint Tour. Coming in to the night as the tour point leader, Franek lined up 7th in his heat for the second night in a row. He would pass three cars, earning him enough passing points to participate in the top 8 redraw where he drew the pole position. Working the extreme high side of the track for nearly all 25 laps, Franek never looked back en-route to his 5th victory of the season.

Sunday evening saw Franek and crew make their way further north to the Utica Rome Speedway to compete in the Cole Cup. With 33 cars in attendance, Franek was third fastest in his timed hot lap session, lining him up second in his heat. Although he ultimately fell one spot for a 3rd place finish in his heat, Franek was still in the redraw and drew the 8th place starting spot for the 50 lap main event.

In the first 6 laps, Frank moved from his 8th place starting spot up to second behind pole sitter and leader Dylan Westbrook. For the remainder of the race, Franek raced within the top three before settling in the lead on lap 41 and not looking back, scoring the $5,000 win.

“This is definitely the biggest win of my career for sure,” said Franek. “To do it at Utica-Rome, it’s a place we’ve struggled at. Everything just fell our way. The car was really, really good.”
